satnav - Machines
a big detailed list of all of the fun machines i own! stuff like computers, game consoles, etc... no pictures yet but i'm planning on doing a photo shoot of everything for this page eventually. most of them also aren't really named right now, but that might change! maybe! the sorting is kind of random but it's usually a combination of how much i care about the thing and how recently i got it.
inspired by colortraks' machines shrine :)
also officially known as "freaky-deck-twopointo", she's my currently daily driver! i got her in january of 2025. i'll give her a real name at some point. probably. as you probably guessed by the name, she's a steam deck! specifically the 256gb LCD version. when my last main computer (STEVE) finally broke, i had to start looking for options to replace him, when i remembered that i really wanted a steam deck. after doing some research regarding getting the same set of specs built manually and about docks, i decided that'd be my plan. and it's been an awesome plan so far!
she's hooked up to Skull & Co's Steam Dock basically 24/7, connected to an old VGA monitor through an hdmi to vga adapter. the only exceptions are when i go to cook, in which i just disconnect her and use her as a youtube viewing tablet :) she does absolutely everything i need her to do, since steam decks are literally just linux computers. most people don't seem to realize that? it's nuts! she's the most powerful computer i've ever owned!
although, i did replace SteamOS with CachyOS Handheld Edition, as SteamOS is superrr locked down and not at all fit for daily use. i'd like to move to a generic distro at some point, to have even more freedom and to not have to use something arch-based, but that's a little more risky so i haven't looked into it yet. i don't know how drivers and stuff would work... but i barely use gaming mode so i might as well!
name wise, she's "freaky deck" because she's not running SteamOS, and the reason she's 2.0 is more of a software thing. one day, CachyOS just sort of! gave up on me! i had to spend hours trying to get access to the files to back them up, and even when i did, i ended up forgetting some important project stuff. oh well! i managed to get most important things, and just reinstalled cachyos again.
she has a one minor problem, and it's that her headphone jack is really loose? if i'm using her handheld, i have to be super careful or my headphones WILL disconnect. CachyOS also has a couple of problems, mainly that if my headphones disconnect and reconnect, the volume gets set to 100%. which sucks with the last thing. and youtube videos frequently glitch the hell out? that's all i have to complain about, though. she's amazing otherwise!

you know what a switch is! i'm pretty sure she's from the first batch of patched switches, since i got her agesss ago but she's not homebrewable. kind of sucks, but i'm hopeful that her being such an early switch means there'll be some kind of hardware exploit in the future that i'll still be able to make use of.
i've played SO much on her, everything from minecraft to tons of mario kart 8 deluxe to way too much animal crossing to a LOT of tears of the kingdom. not a lot of breath of the wild though. i didn't like that game too much. she's been with me longer than any other electronics that i own i think, and she even gave me a sick ass scar (long story!) skyrim on switch is also still the best way to play it, since gyro aiming with bows and spells (like botw) is SO awesome.
i don't play her much these days, mostly because i main a steam deck (way more comfortable to hold, controllers work a lot better, docks much better, etc), but she's still a great animal crossing and zelda machine. whenever i get my inevitable week long ac or zelda phases, she's there! it's awesome. hopefully one day i can mod her.

STORAGE: 32GB
DISPLAY: 1280 x 720, 6.2" (built in)

a 3DS i won at an arcade so long ago! it definitely would have been cheaper to just buy one used (back then especially), but it was mostly just through my dad taking me to the arcade all the time and us being really good at this one coin pusher game, so it was more of a byproduct of that. when i first got her i actually wanted to sell her, for what would've been a hundred something dollars back then, but my dad never got around to it so i eventually just decided i wanted to keep it. and i'm glad i did! both because they go for way much more now, and because i like her.
obviously, she's loadeddd with homebrew. not as much as some people, since i've had to factory reset her a couple of times due to snowballing software issues, but still a good amount! i kind of use her in short phases, i really like the idea of actually playing her until i do for a while and my hands cramp up. don't even get me started on trying to use the d-pad! but i've been slowly collecting stuff i like on her, and i've got a few themes i really like and a good sorting system for games. i even have a project where i'm trying to get every sonic game possible on her, mostly using virtual console. (and homebrew for the decomps!)
more recently, i played animal crossing on her and had both ACNL and ACNH's new years countdowns going when 2024 was becoming 2025, although i don't have that ACNL save anymore for a million reasons. i've also been getting to go to a lot of real life events, and i like to bring my 3DS to those just for fun. she has this issue that kind of sucks, where her cartridge slot just refuses to work, and nothing i've done can fix it... but i've got hShop so it's probably okay.
one day, my big goal is to make my own 3DS game!! using lovebrew specifically, although running a pico-8 game of my own could also be cool. i successfully set up all the dev stuff you're meant to at some point, and made a program that displayed some text on one screen and an image on another, but that's kinda it. as you might know from this website, i'm not too good at actually doing things. but, you know, maybe one day!
MODEL: New Nintendo 3DS XL (Galaxy Style)
STORAGE: Some amount of blocks
ACCESSORIES: Yoshi case, third party charger
a beautiful xbox 360 slim that i bought on a trip down to the beach agesss ago. my hometown didn't have any good game shops, so when i went on vacation to a more popular town, i of course had to check all the stores in the area. i ended up walking out with an xbox 360 and a PS2 (that was broken and i never got my money back for.) i had an xbox 360 when i was a kid, and while most of my games got stolen, i had been holding onto a good amount for a while, so i already had stuff to play on it! it was awesome.
it kind of just collected dust for a while, since i mostly just have bethesda games and call of duty games without bots, but once badupdate got released? i booted her back and up and immediately filled a spare USB with super legal games. mostly ones that are completely exclusive to the 360, like banjo kazooie nuts & bolts (a favourite of someone i know), and childhood games i no longer had like midnight club los angeles. badupdate rocks!!!
i still don't use her super often, but she's actually entered the lineup of stuff i actually use and don't just let gather dust forever, which is always awesome. maybe one day i can get a ps3 too and play heavenly sword...
MODEL: Xbox 360 Slim (bought used)
STORAGE: ???
ACCESSORIES: Weird camo controller, 256GB Sandisk USB stick with Bad Update and Very Legal Games
a horrible beast of some kind. i got it as a christmas / birthday gift a few years back. no disc drive, mediocre homebrew scene (that costs 20 bucks to use), expensive ass games... i liked it when i first got it and was paying for game pass, and could suddenly play all sorts of games my past computers could never run, but it didn't really stick. i like to stop using consoles for months at a time, which you can't really do with a monthly subscription! it also keeps getting more and more expensive! and you can't just buy used games because there's no disc drive!
the game i played the most on there was core keeper, and my saves for it are now locked behind 30 bucks a month. i also played fortnite on it for a while, and used it as a roblox machine when STEVE shit herself. if it's not obvious already, i'm planning on selling it sometime in the future, probably for a meta quest 3!
MODEL: Xbox Series S
STORAGE: 512GB
